Upcoming
  • Lachit - Buranji Likha ToruwalNovember 19 and 20, 2022 Hazarapar Stadium, TezpurIn an attempt to portray the life and ideals of Mahabir Lachit Borphukan and instil a sense of patriotism and inspire nationalism among today’s youth, socio-cultural organization Repertory has come up with its 25th drama ‘Lachit’. The play will be performed on an open stage with special settings and scenery. The backdrop for the drama will capture the natural scenery of Saraighat and the Brahmaputra and the Battle of Saraighat and other scene will be staged on the Hazarapar lake. Though the drama will have 26 main characters, nearly 250 other characters and actors will be involved. The drama is expected to attract at least around 5000 spectators. The plot of the play has been derived on information collected from various historical sources and the book ‘Buronji Likha Toruwal’. The story of courage and heroism shown by Assam and the Assamese soldier by resisting Mughal invasions 17 times is inspiring for every Indian across the nation. The play will depict the childhood, adolescence and youth of Lachit, son of the skilled administrator Momai Tamuli Barua. The drama will tell the story of Lachit, who when faced with the responsibility of protecting the dignity and sovereignty of his country, led the fight against the Mughals with an ailing body and thus saved the dignity of Assam and the Assamese people. The drama will also narrate the horrors faced by the daughters of the land at the hands of the Mughal Army and the sacrifices made by thousands of young men. This is truly a heroic story. The drama will also reflect the costumes and architecture of the Ahom era with the addition of special lighting, sound and music to tell the story of these heroes in the best possible way through audio-visual means.
